The local concert promoter celebrates 10 years of bringing interesting, challenging, and innovative music to Montreal this weekend with a series of free shows up at Il Motore. It's a moody and contemplative set on this week's Midnight Poutine podcast. Maybe it's because we're worried about turning 150 next week. Maybe this is our mid-life crisis. Or maybe we're bummed that we weren't invited to host some kind of Olympic podcast, that we won't get a chance to own the podium. Whatever the case, our grief is your gain. Here's 15 stellar tracks to prove it:

Dinosaur Bones - Ice Hotels
Silly Kissers - Ghost in Your Heart
The Hoof and the Heel - Tigers
The Crown Vandals - Coleander
Sasha Borodin - Longings
El Perro Del Mar - Change of Heart
Phantogram - When I'm Small

It’s an ode to Valentine’s day on this week's Midnight Poutine podcast. We cover all sorts of special showcases happening over the next few days, for the lonely or the lovers. And while we’d like to send each of you a special card that says “Bee Mine” (and there’s a picture of a bee on it), you’ll have to settle for this audio love letter (i.e. more ridiculous banter).

Jordi Rosen - Garance et Baptiste
The Sadies - Anna Leigh
Woodpigeon - My Denial in Argyle
Eddy Blake and the Honky Tonk Heartbreakers - Caffeine and Nicotine
Leif Vollebekk - 1921
Basia Bulat - Gold Rush

It seems like Montreal’s various music scenes are finally, officially, back from the holidays. There are more shows this week than we can shake a stick at (yes, that was us you saw running rampant down your street, waving branches and other stick-like objects). Join us as we sift through the chaos. Making things even more exciting, a Concordia video crew drops in on the Midnight Poutine studio to film us “in action”. They haven’t said anything, but I’m pretty sure they’re making the 4D sequel to Avatar.

Jane's Party - No Good for Me
The Wind Up Radio Sessions - Me and My Doe
The Abramson Singers - Take a Camera
Ani Difranco - Garden of Simple

Join us in our audio kitchen for another sonic concoction. Bring your own Slap Chop.

Sorry...I just learned the definition of "metaphor". Let's get back to some straight talk: Here's this week's playlist:

The Midnight Poutine podcast has a lot to celebrate this week. The glorious return of previously ailing co-host Greg Bouchard, the Montreal Alouette’s nail-biting Grey Cup victory and, of course, the last rush of live shows before the holiday break. As regular purveyors of music recommendations, we suggest you spend all the money you have set aside for xmas presents on music gigs, and give your family and friends the gift of love instead. That said, Midnight Poutine accepts no responsibility for major family feuds, rifts, or travesties that occur based on our gift recommendations.

It’s almost December and over at Midnight Poutine, we’re freaking out. Where did the year go? Why did our parents lie to us about Santa? Still, we try our best to get into the holiday spirit with a pretty Christmas carol, some jolly banter, and even a gift. I thought about chugging egg nog during the show but decided against it. Maybe next week.

There are some great musical activities in town this week, including M for Montreal, a visit from aging alt-rockers The Cranberries, and an online tour from a creative and dreamy electro-pop duo called Candy Claws. This is the 1st of a series of 5 podcasts. Pace yourself. It's gonna be a long, fun, loud, and beautiful week. Here's instalment #1 of the Pop preview on your Midnight Poutine Podcast:

In 2003, a friend's brother introduced me to a band, Reverie Sound Revue, who had a 5 song EP out that ended up being the pop/downtempo soundtrack to my summer, fall, winter, then spring, summer and fall again. Shortly after that, the band broke up, before making a full length album. The EP sat for years on my shelf and in my cd player, a fleeting if incomplete high point in my music collection. Long story short...the band has recently "re-formed" temporarily (they don't tour, but they managed to record an album). It's gorgeous, floating music, and it landed in my inbox a few days ago. I sneak a song onto this week's show, just for you:
