Poutine Pix - 153

The attention of the music world is focused on Austin, Texas this week, but we stay true to what's happening here in Montreal. We talk about Indyish's Spring themed Monthly Mess, the Artists Against Apartheid showcase and generally try to ignore the fact that once again, Midnight Poutine did not receive an all expenses paid trip to South by Southwest. Heck, we didn't even get asked to participate in Canadian Music Week. What the eff? Apparently we are not the music moguls we pass ourselves off as.

Grimes - Fifteen Minutes To
Ghostkeeper - By Morning
Field Music - Each Time is a New Time
The Clientele - I Wonder Who We Are
Dead Letter Chorus - Down in the Valley
LAL - Where We Belong
Air - Do The Joy
Brasstronaut - Slow Knots
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble - Planet Gibbous
Heartbeat Hotel - TVPO
Holy Cobras - He’s Rubber, I’m Real
Desert Owls - Who
Bon Jovi - Livin’ on a Prayer

Poutine Pix - 152

It's the El Niño version of the Midnight Poutine podcast. That means we serve up a warm storm of fabulous tunes for you. Actually, considering how sunny it is around here, we spend a surprising amount of time talking about snow this week. In particular, we yap about the delightful Under the Snow festival that fellow MP writer Phil was raving about earlier this week. It's one of Montreal's quieter (as in under-promoted) festivals, but it's well worth checking out.

Pick a Piper - Rooms
Clues - You Have My Eyes Now
The Darling Demaes - Winter in Montreal
Boats - Sunrise on the Muffin District
JT and the Clouds - Fever Dream
Scout Niblett - Kidnapped by Neptune
Sweet Mother Logic - Ghost Army
Real Estate - Beach Comber
Postcards - Enemy
Light Bulb Alley - Stranger in a Strange Town
Chansons D’Amour - 8
The Dillinger Escape Plan - 43 Percent Burnt

Poutine Pix - 150

Happy Birthday Blue Skies Turn Black. The local concert promoter celebrates 10 years of bringing interesting, challenging, and innovative music to Montreal this weekend with a series of free shows up at Il Motore. Even though the Midnight Poutine podcast is marking an anniversary of our own this week (Yay Episode #150!), we're babies in this city compared to them. Our hats are off and our glasses are raised for everyone at BSTB.

The Besnard Lakes - Albatross
Snailhouse - They Won’t Believe You
Oxen Talk - Pommier, Rideau, Portemanteau
Camaromance - Out of Luck
Wilco - I’m Always in Love
Shortpants Romance - Hiroshima Skies

Poirier - Marathon
Pom Pom War - Cha Cha
Black Joe Lewis - I’m Broke
Kae Sun - A Day Goes By

Poutine Pix - 149

It's a moody and contemplative set on this week's Midnight Poutine podcast. Maybe it's because we're worried about turning 150 next week. Maybe this is our mid-life crisis. Or maybe we're bummed that we weren't invited to host some kind of Olympic podcast, that we won't get a chance to own the podium. Whatever the case, our grief is your gain. Here's 15 stellar tracks to prove it:

Dinosaur Bones - Ice Hotels
Silly Kissers - Ghost in Your Heart
The Hoof and the Heel - Tigers
The Crown Vandals - Coleander
Sasha Borodin - Longings
El Perro Del Mar - Change of Heart
Phantogram - When I'm Small
Flow Child - With a Stolen God
The Tanuki Project - Right Place
Owen Pallett - Lewis Takes Action
Orion Rigel Dommisse - Ashes from your Burning Land
Kurt Vile - Overnite Religion
Steve Brockley - Late Night Nancy
The Pink Noise - Love for Sale
The Horny Bitches - Chicks with Dicks

Poutine Pix - 148

It’s an ode to Valentine’s day on this week's Midnight Poutine podcast. We cover all sorts of special showcases happening over the next few days, for the lonely or the lovers. And while we’d like to send each of you a special card that says “Bee Mine” (and there’s a picture of a bee on it), you’ll have to settle for this audio love letter (i.e. more ridiculous banter).

Jordi Rosen - Garance et Baptiste
The Sadies - Anna Leigh
Woodpigeon - My Denial in Argyle
Eddy Blake and the Honky Tonk Heartbreakers - Caffeine and Nicotine
Leif Vollebekk - 1921
Basia Bulat - Gold Rush
Stars - Take Me to the Riot
The Antlers - Bear
Bateau Noir - Parade
Axxe - Saturday Night (Neon Workout Mix)
Kram Ran - A Death & Kill
AIDS Wolf - Pressing Graphite

Bravo February. You made it. And if you stay sunny and pleasant like this, we're happy to have you. The change of month seems to have brought its fair share of music to the city this weekend, including the 9th edition of the Féstival Voix D'Amériques (a tastefully curated showcase featuring spoken word, poetry and more). We also talk about livin' on a prayer, secret shows and spherical mattresses on this week's Midnight Poutine Podcast:

Sleepless Nights - Everybody's Dancing
The Matavaras - Overthrown
Lightbulb Alley - Bad Day
Attack in Black - Liberties
$100 - Careless Love
Sean Nicholas Savage - Kisses Like a Girl
The Magnetic Fields - California Girls
La Roux - Quicksand
Elephant Stone - The Seven Seas
The Luyas - Spherical Mattress
Music for Money - La Marche
Ismism - Ananhedonialess
