Poutine Pix - 147

Bravo February. You made it. And if you stay sunny and pleasant like this, we're happy to have you. The change of month seems to have brought its fair share of music to the city this weekend, including the 9th edition of the Féstival Voix D'Amériques (a tastefully curated showcase featuring spoken word, poetry and more). We also talk about livin' on a prayer, secret shows and spherical mattresses on this week's Midnight Poutine Podcast:

Sleepless Nights - Everybody's Dancing
The Matavaras - Overthrown
Lightbulb Alley - Bad Day
Attack in Black - Liberties
$100 - Careless Love
Sean Nicholas Savage - Kisses Like a Girl
The Magnetic Fields - California Girls
La Roux - Quicksand
Elephant Stone - The Seven Seas
The Luyas - Spherical Mattress
Music for Money - La Marche
Ismism - Ananhedonialess

Poutine Pix - 146

It seems like Montreal’s various music scenes are finally, officially, back from the holidays. There are more shows this week than we can shake a stick at (yes, that was us you saw running rampant down your street, waving branches and other stick-like objects). Join us as we sift through the chaos. Making things even more exciting, a Concordia video crew drops in on the Midnight Poutine studio to film us “in action”. They haven’t said anything, but I’m pretty sure they’re making the 4D sequel to Avatar.

By Divine Right - I Love a Girl
Jane's Party - No Good for Me
The Wind Up Radio Sessions - Me and My Doe
The Abramson Singers - Take a Camera
Ani Difranco - Garden of Simple
The Balconies - Serious Bedtime
The Darcys - House Built Around Your Voice
Zeroes - The Disappearance of the Skyscraper
Sunfields - Palace
The Beatdown - Get Ready (Temptations cover)
Jeff the brotherhood - Heavy Damage
The Peelies - Merde in French
Champion - Clear Beach
Grand Trine - I am a Magnet

Poutine Pix - 145

We’re back with another dose of musical poutine for you. This week’s serving is definitely one of our messiest in a while, since we try and add a splash of hip hop and power jazz to our regular base of rock and folk. Join us in our audio kitchen for another sonic concoction. Bring your own Slap Chop.

Sorry...I just learned the definition of "metaphor". Let's get back to some straight talk: Here's this week's playlist:

Clare & The Reasons - Pluto
Nouvelle Vague - Master & Servant
Great Bloomers - The Young Ones Slept
The Wooden Sky - Angels
Modernboys Moderngirls - I Can Hardly Stand
Nightwood - Maritimer

Poutine Pix - 142

The Midnight Poutine podcast has a lot to celebrate this week. The glorious return of previously ailing co-host Greg Bouchard, the Montreal Alouette’s nail-biting Grey Cup victory and, of course, the last rush of live shows before the holiday break. As regular purveyors of music recommendations, we suggest you spend all the money you have set aside for xmas presents on music gigs, and give your family and friends the gift of love instead. That said, Midnight Poutine accepts no responsibility for major family feuds, rifts, or travesties that occur based on our gift recommendations.

Phoenix - Girlfriend
The Dudes - Girl Police
Dojo Workhorse - Misbehave
Julie Fader - Lullabye
Satellite Maps - Palindromes
Mew - Introducing Palace Players
Intensive Care - Another You
AA Bondy - When The Devil’s Loose
Wax Mannequin - Broken Friends
Rae Spoon - Bones in a Museum
MEB - La Neige
Holy Fuck - Jungles
Russian Circles - Malko
Hey Predator - Pageantry

Poutine Pix - 141

It’s almost December and over at Midnight Poutine, we’re freaking out. Where did the year go? Why did our parents lie to us about Santa? Still, we try our best to get into the holiday spirit with a pretty Christmas carol, some jolly banter, and even a gift. I thought about chugging egg nog during the show but decided against it. Maybe next week.

Years - The Assassination of Dow Jones
Apostle of Hustle - Xerxes
Hannah Speirs - In The Attic
Darling Ghost - Too Bad
Cotton Mouth - Hive of Bees
Bonjay - Gimmee Gimmee
Imogen Heap - First Train Home
Animal Hospital - March and June
The Big Pink - Velvet
Crystal Antlers - Andrew
Les Breastfeeders - Le Roi Est Nu
Matt Epp - This Old House
Brian Borcherdt - Vanishing Act
The Good Lovelies - Another Year To Wait
